Grants for Small Business Owners

In the past applying for a business grant used to be long and drawn out process. The grant application process was long and complicated, and many times grant applications were hard to find. Loans for small businesses were just as hard to qualify for. Grants were most often awarded to those people who knew where to find them. The good news is that the grant process has changed for the better in recent years. The US government has a website that is filled with useful information such as (1) where to find grants that are applicable to your own situation, (2) how to apply for a grant, and (3) links to other websites that provide small business grant information.

Applying for a grant is much simpler than it used to be. You no longer have to fill out forms and documents that are complicated and difficult to understand. Much of your grant application can be submitted on line. On line submissions allow you to take your time with the grant application before finally submitting a proposal that is clean and flawless. Before filling out a grant application you need to know for which grants you’d like to apply. Make sure that you meet all the requirements before you apply for any grant or you’ll be wasting your time applying for a grant that you have no chance of being awarded. Take note of the specific grant’s Funding Opportunity Number, or CFDA, for future reference.

The next step in your grant application is to download the application to your own computer. You’ll need to have the grant’s Funding Opportunity Number, or CFDA, handy at this time. Before you submit your grant application you’ll need to register with the Central Contractor Registry. Registration is needed in order to designate an EPOC (e-Business Point of Contact). The Central Contractor Registry is used to verify your identity when you fill on your personal information in the grant application. This can save a lot of time when it comes for applying for multiple grants.

Even though there are so many steps involved with filling out a small business grant application, filling the proposal out on line can save you a lot of time and move the grant process along much faster than if you send in your application by mail. On line grant applications include (1) easy to follow instructions, (2) reference information, and (3) a FAQ section to help you find quick answers to your questions. The only thing lacking in the on line grant application process is personal support. Even after you submit your grant application on line you’ll want to follow up with a phone call in order to have a bit of personal contact with someone who is connected to the specific grant you’re applying for.
