Finding Small Business Grants for Women
Women entrepreneurs may have a hard time finding a business grant for which they qualify. The US government website for grant information can be hard to read and difficult to find information about specific grants for women who want to start their own business. The most important thing to remember is that you’re looking for a grant, which you don’t have to pay back, as opposed to a business loan which is offered from the Small Business Administration (SBA). If you get a business loan you’ll still be responsible for paying back the interest, which will be the current interest rate at the bank that supplies the loan. If you’re going to be starting your own small business you’ve probably already noticed that you don’t have a lot of extra time to search for applicable grants nor do you have the finances to hire someone to write the grant proposal for you. One website that can provide you with a lot of information about grants is www.grants.gov. This site is filled with grant information including what you need to do to apply for these grants. Don’t limit yourself to applying for one grant. The more small business grants you apply for more you increase your chances of being awarded at least one of them. The first time you start to look for a small business grant you can expect to spend a lot of time going through the many federal websites that offer free grants. This can be confusing and overwhelming especially if you’re not sure what you should be looking for. For instance, the Department of Commerce has over 127 programs in place to encourage the US economy. Those are a lot of different programs that you have to look through in order to find out if they are offering any small business grants for women. If you have a business idea that you want to develop the best piece of advice you can take is to start slow. It may take you over a year to find grants to apply for and then another few months before you get the decision about whether or not you’ve been awarded the grant. Don’t expect to open the doors of your new business in just a few months or you may be in for a huge disappointment. One of the goals of the US government is to encourage economic growth in the community for women. Studies show that women entrepreneurs often do much better than men who are operating their own business. If you have a business that you want to open, start with a business plan that is both feasible and workable. As you fill out the grant proposal your business plan will start to come into sharper focus. By the time you’re awarded the grant you’ll know exactly what you want to do with the money to enhance the growth of your business. | |||||
